The new Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab
I attended the Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab launch on Saturday, 29 February, at Oranje Toyota, Bloemfontein. The Hilux Xtra Cab is really an amazing vehicle, all the functionality of a single cab bakkie, but with the enormous amount of extra space behind the seats. It well worth checking out if you are in the market for a bakkie. This is going to be yet another top seller for Toyota.

I came across this Hilux SFA in a parking lot in Bloemfontein. No mountain too high for this baby.
You got the new Toyota 4x4 and you immediately want to take it off-road. If you are planning to drive in sandy areas, be it dunes or normal sand, you would do yourself a favour by reading the following.
The fundamental theme with sand driving is to conserve your momentum. Since traction is at a premium, any increase in speed can be difficult, if not impossible, and you do not want to lose any momentum, as you may not be able to regain it.

Taking a game drive with my cousin in his Toyota Land Cruiser near Krugersdrift dam, near Bloemfontein. The veld was totally sogged. Luckily the Cruiser had the rear and front Diff Locks on !
After the recent flooding in SA, we visited my cousins farm on the banks of the Modder river near Bloemfontein. The farm roads we unaccessable. Except if you were in a Hilux 3.0D-4D 4x4 DC, of course. It just proved again what an amazing vehicle this is. My brother is very proud of his Toyota. Now I just need one!

Another Hilux conquering the dunes at Vleesbaai. Some of the other drivers had to turn back, because they couldn't finish the course. I bet they wish they rather bought a Hilux.
Yesterday I went with my brother and his Hilux 3.0 D-4D DC 4x4 to tackle the dunes of the Vleesbaai Dune Route. Awesome route, awesome vehicle !
Highlands Mountain Retreat - Golden Gate - Altitude 2200 m - The highest accommodation in South Africa. Feels like sea level in a Hilux. Pity it's not mine.
