Johnny Gemmell and Peter Marsh stormed back into championship contention by winning the Osram Rally, round 6 of the 2009 Sasol South African Rally Championship. Completing a perfect day at the office for the factory Castrol Toyota squad, Mark Cronje and Robert Paisley finished a strong 2nd overall, giving the class S2000 Toyota Auris its first 1 - 2 finish since making its debut on this event exactly one year ago.
Toyota South Africa has announced that the new third generation Prius will be made available in two specification levels, Advanced and Exclusive. Both feature an extensive comfort and safety features list to complement the advanced technology of this latest full hybrid vehicle from Toyota.
Penalties, podium losses, podium gains, conspiracies, lies, rulings... only three races into the 2009 season and Formula 1 racing is more exciting than any soap you’ll ever watch! However, despite all the controversy surrounding Flexi Wings, KERS and the like, this is proving to be a dream season for Panasonic Toyota, currently sitting pretty in second position on the constructors’ log.
Environmental scientists and visionary thinkers are agreed – our current way of doing things isn’t working, and it is time for a complete rethink and dramatic change of attitude.
Instead of trying to dominate or control the natural world around us, we need to accept that the Earth is a laboratory with a 3,8-billion-year track record of creating brilliant and enduring designs that work.
In its continued quest to improve the safety of drivers and passengers, Toyota has developed a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) rear-seat centre airbag – the first of its kind in the world – to help reduce the severity of secondary injuries incurred by rear-seat passengers in a side-on collision.
Bernard Hellberg broke the tradition of air travel and opted to drive down to the annual Cape Argus cycle race in a Toyota Quantum.
Let me state from the outset that, as a cyclist with a love affair with the annual Cape Argus, I have sincere reservations about travelling to the Cape by road. As a rule, I regard flying as the way to go.
However, for this year’s event, I was offered a ride in a Quantum 2.7 petrol with the promise that the vehicle would be more than competent to tackle the 1 460 kilometres between Pretoria and Cape Town.
This weekend from 16 to 17 May, the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 takes place in KwaZulu-Natal. This is the third round of the ABSA Offroad Championship. In round one, Toyota scored a category win (class E) at the Nissan Dealer 400. In round two, Cronje/Birkin won the Eastern Cape 500 for Toyota in their Hilux.
Catch the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 preview today on Supersport 2 at 13:00 - 13:30 and the highlights on the same channel on 25 May, 12:00 - 13:00. This is, of course, if you don't get in your own bakkie and go there to experience it yourself.
Mark Cronje and Chris Birkin won last weekend's Eastern Cape 500 in their Castrol Toyota Hilux. They won the Friday prologue (which determines starting positions) and then went on to win by an impressive 10 minute margin.
Birkin and Cronje are the reigning Class A7 champions which has played a role in their win.
Who would you say is a typical Corolla driver? We asked Toyota SA this question and here's what they had to say:
We all know them. Some of us are lucky enough to be them. Those loveable family guys whose flaws and mistakes only serve to make them that much more endearing.
Like most of us in the real world, our hero in the new Corolla wasn’t born looking like Brad Pitt. And although he’s up for anything, he doesn’t always get everything right. But perhaps because of his great attitude, or the fact that he doesn’t take life too seriously, the good things in life always seem to come his way.
The Toyota Corolla range was the top seller for September 2007. NAAMSA (National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa) reported that the sales of the Corolla range totalled 3 242 units, contributing to 21,6% share of the total market for Toyota in what was the new sedan's first full sales month. These stats are impressive and show that the trusted Corolla name remains popular with consumers even at a time when the struggling car industry has seen a substantial 13% drop in new passenger car sales compared to the same time last year.
