Toyota is no stranger to environmental accolades thanks largely to the Prius success story, however, this time it’s the Auris HSD’s turn to take the honours, ‘driving’ off with the trophy for the best green car in the 2012 WOW Women’s Car of the Year Awards.
As the voice of female consumers, the awards saw WOW readers and the ‘all-girl’ judging panel vote for their favourite vehicles in 12 distinct categories. This year a record 79 000 votes were received via SMS and the online poll.
Worldwide sales of Toyota and Lexus full hybrid vehicles top 4 million

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) this week announced that global cumulative sales of its full hybrid vehicles have topped the 4 million mark as of April 30. Cumulative sales of full hybrid vehicles in Europe reached 423,000 units.

Toyota South Africa’s latest dynamic duo, the Toyota Auris HSD and the Auris TRD team up to perform a sporty duet that is sure to impress. Spirited performance is what these two newcomers share – how they achieve it, however, is from opposite ends of the technology spectrum.
The Auris HSD marks Toyota’s very first introduction of its Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) or full hybrid technology to one of its mainstream models. Furthermore, this five-door hatchback has the distinction of offering the only full hybrid powertrain in the C-segment.
