Not only did Toyota ZONE receive the ultimate accolade – Best Corporate Publication overall – it also collected a clutch of individual category awards, including Best Corporate Publication overall and Best External Magazine (category A: bigger budgets).
Toyota support for Tokai Challenger in 2012 South African Solar Challenge
Toyota South Africa Motors will again support the sleek solar powered Tokai Challenger 2 from the Tokai university team in Japan in the 2012 Sasol Solar Challenge South Africa that today (18 September 2012) started at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria.
The Tokai Challenger is arguably the most successful solar car ever built. Not only has it won the South African Solar Challenge in 2008 and again in 2010, but also the 2009 Global Green Challenge Australian event, while an updated version was also victorious in the 2011 World Solar Challenge.
Toyota Racing led from start to finish for the team’s first victory in just its third race with a dominant performance in the Six Hours of Sao Paulo at Interlagos, the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Drivers Alex Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre started from pole position in the TS030 Hybrid as the no. 7 car maintained its record of having led every race in which it has competed.

A victory for Castrol Team Toyota’s Johnny Gemmell and Carolyn Swan (Toyota Auris) in the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally in the Western Cape on September 13, 14 and 15 would be a sponsor’s dream. It would also put the Toyota Motorsport pair back into the lead of the championship and closer to winning the title for the first time.
Toyota Racing secured second place and the fastest lap in just its second FIA World Endurance Championship race following an exciting battle in the WEC Six Hours of Silverstone in Great Britain.
The driver line-up of Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima in the no. 7 TS030 Hybrid made full use of a reliable and fast car to challenge at the front throughout an exciting race.

The obsession with that number transcends itself all over the car: the chrome tipped exhaust opening measures 86mm, even the boxer engine’s square bore and stroke set-up of 86mm by 86mm proved ideal, the same as the Celica and MR2.
