To commemorate the centenary year of the legendary race between Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott to reach the South Pole first, Hilux AT vehicles have again showed their mettle by setting new world records in the harsh Antarctic climate.

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and Toyota SA Motors (TSAM) have concluded an agreement in which the Container and Automotive Business Unit of Transnet Freight Rail will directly handle the transportation of certain locally manufactured and imported Toyota vehicles.

The contract was officially signed on Wednesday 14 December 2011, Prospecton, Durban by Dr Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of TSAM, and Mr Siyabonga Gama, Chief Executive of TFR.

Leading the way

At a special event hosted by the Economic Development Department (EDD) at COP17 on Friday, 9 December 2011, the government extended its gratitude to Toyota SA Motors for the motor manufacturer’s support and assistance during COP17. Toyota supplied a ‘green’ fleet of 30 (mostly) hybrid vehicles that was used to transport Ministers of State and senior officials to the various COP17 events.

Nineteen-year-old Toyota CSA Academy member, Louis Meintjes, upstaged some of South Africa’s most experienced professionals to win the five-day Clover Lowveld road cycling stage race that finished in Graskop, Mpumalanga on Tuesday.

Meintjes claimed the overall title after six stages of high quality racing, 34 seconds ahead of reigning South African Elite road race champion, Darren Lill (Bonitas) and 58 seconds ahead of third placed Dennis van Niekerk, MTN Qhubeka’s stage race specialist.

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) will soon celebrate the opening of dealership number 197 when it delivers the first new vehicles to its brand new facility in Soweto, Johannesburg.

The new facility is currently under construction and is a joint venture between Barloworld Motor Retail and the well-known Maponya-family. Scheduled completion is planned for November 2011 and the new facility will have the capacity to retail in excess of 30 new vehicles and 25 approved used Automark vehicles every month. The total investment in the new facility is estimated at R40 million.

Small Female, Large Male Join Virtual Crash Test Dummy Lineup

Toyota has added a small female and a large male to its family of digital crash test dummies. Known as THUMS* (Total HUman Model for Safety) these virtual humans deliver crash test results in much greater detail than is achievable with conventional crash-test dummies.
